Why Volunteer?

The fire service is a challenging and rewarding path.
Every call requires teamwork, skill, and a commitment to helping others. While people join for different reasons, they all share one goal: to serve and protect the community.

What are my membership options?

Active Membership

After completing probation and required training—typically about one year for those without certification—members can serve as fully qualified firefighters.

Certified and experienced members will still complete probation but may be released sooner based on competency and familiarity with OVFC policies.

Our department operates a variety of specialized units, each requiring teamwork and skill. We invite you to learn more and consider applying for Active Membership.

Associate Membership

We recognize the physical and mental demands of active service, which is why we offer Associate Membership as another way to contribute.

Associate members don’t ride the apparatus, but they play a vital role by supporting fire scenes, assisting with fundraising, and helping with essential tasks identified by our leadership. They are key to our daily operations.
