OVFC responds to two working fires in two days
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By 2nd Assistant Chief Jason Morris
November 24, 2019

In less than two days OVFC volunteers have been out on two working house fires.

The first fire, located north of Town, was mutual aid to Culpeper. Engine and Tanker 23 (10 total volunteers) assisted with the fire located in a 1 story home in the 7000 block of James Madison Highway. Personnel included multiple Culpeper companies and Madison County.

The second occurred last night off Scuffletown Road in Somerset. Tanker 23 alongside Medic 25 arrived first and initiated an aggressive attack on a 2 story detached garage with close exposure to a large two story home. Barboursville Tanker 25 and Wagon 25 and OVFC Truck 23 arrived minutes later and established water supply and began opening up the second floor of the garage to prevent vertical extension. Crews knocked down the fire and worked to prevent extension into the residence through a small open breezeway between the home and garage. Crews spent an extended amount of time on scene working through debris and extinguishing hot spots in the balloon framed building.

A total of 12 OVFC volunteers worked on scene for more than 4 hours.

Additional assistance was provided by Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company, Ruckersville Volunteer Fire Company and Madison Volunteer Fire Company.
