Mike has been a member of the Orange Volunteer Fire Company since 1983. Mike is known around the firehouse as Groundhog. He has taken the following classes: Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials-Operations, EVOC, Basic Pump and Aerial Operations, Vehicle Extrication, and LZ Coordinator.

Mike has been employed by Virginia Power since 1980. He is a gun collector and a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan.
