Lewistown Rd. Attic

June 23
-
Firefighters were sent to the eastern end of the county for an
early morning house fire on Lewistown Road. Orange
Volunteers sent the Tanker, Truck, and Salvage to assist
Mine Run, Lake of the Woods, and Spotsylvania Firefighters in
the effort. Crews quickly extinguished the attic fire and
firefighters remained on scene for several hours with overhaul.

Lahore Rd. MVC - 1
Trapped
June 22
- Orange
Volunteers responded to the 22000 block of Lahore Road
for a reported two-vehicle crash with entrapment. County
Deputies arrived and stated they had a vehicle on its roof with
one entrapped. Orange Firefighters went to work with Engine
23’s crew stabilizing the vehicle and Salvage 23’s crew arrived
to set up for the extrication. The patient, though combative,
was safely removed from the vehicle with Mine Run Fire, County
of Orange EMS, and OCRS also on hand providing assistance. A
total of three patients were transported as a result of the
collision.

MVC & LZ -
Constitution Hwy.
June 16
- Crews from Orange and Mine Run worked to free one trapped
victim of this three vehicle MVC at the intersection of Tower
Rd. and Constitution Hwy. Two patients were flown from the
scene by LifeEvac and Pegasus.

May 29 -
Firefighters from Lake of the Woods and other local departments
encountered a working fire in a SFD on Memorial Day.
Orange Volunteers sent the Truck with 6 and assisted with
overhaul.

First Due House Fire
May 26 -
A Friday afternoon working fire was the first of two working
incidents that Orange Volunteers responded to during the
long Memorial Day weekend. First arriving firefighters to
the Kendall Road address encountered a story-and-a-half log
cabin with smoke showing from all four sides. Crews
encountered heavy heat on the second floor that dissipated after
the roof was vented. The fire was knocked in a short
order, but extensive overhaul kept crews on the scene for
several hours.

Barboursville House
Off
May 18 -
Orange
Volunteers sprang into action in the early morning hours of
5/18. 15 men from the Big House responded multiple units
to the trailer fire in downtown Eheart's Corner. Captain
25-1 went on the scene with a working fire in the "Park" and all
units continued. Units from 23 performed multiple
functions and returned to service within two hours.

Liberty Ln. -
Industrial
May 17 -
Local units responded to the former LMC plant on Liberty Lane
for a cooling tower on fire. During the building's
renovation, maintenance crews removing the towers set
combustibles inside of it on fire, thus putting firefighters into
action. Engine and Truck 23 responded to assist units
from Gordonsville and Barboursville.

10 - Crews were sent to Homewood Dr. for a report of a
cyanide spill on the afternoon on 5/10.

Marquis Road MVC
April 23 -
Orange
Volunteers responded to Marquis Rd. near Independence Rd.
for a single vehicle collision with a tree. Firefighters
checked the heavily damaged pickup and remained on scene nearly
two hours providing assistance. All three patients denied
injuries significant enough for transport.

Constitution MVC w/
Fire
April 21 -
Orange and Mine
Run Firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision on Rt.
20 in front of Edward’s Store. The incident was called in by
COF&EMS 604 when he discovered one of the vehicles was ablaze.
Engine 23’s crew went to work dousing the flames with foam and
extinguishing the fire. Constitution Highway was closed for an
extended period of time.

Another MVC on
Rapidan Rd.
April 9 - Engine 23's crew
controlled the hazards at this single vehicle MVC on Rapidan
Road near Quarles Mountain on Sunday morning. The driver
was transported by M23 with non-life threatening injuries.

Countywide
April 5 - While Orange
Volunteers were responding to a chimney fire on Little
Skyline Dr., other County crews were being sent to what was
reported as a chimney fire on Mine Run Rd. Captain 21-1
arrived on the scene and reported a working fire - OCECC filled
the assignment. Units from 23 cleared the chimney fire on
Little Skyline Dr., and headed for Mine Run behind the Tanker,
which was already responding. Orange units worked on
overhaul for several hours and the last units cleared almost
three hours after responding.

One Trapped on
Rapidan Rd.
March
25 - Fire & EMS crews were dispatched to the 8000 block of
Rapidan Road for a MVC with entrapment in the early Saturday
morning hours. Units arrived to find a priority red
patient trapped in the passenger compartment of the pick-up.
Orange Volunteers went to work stabilizing the vehicle and freed
the trapped occupant in around 10 minutes. EMS crews
transported the victim to a waiting medi-vac that had landed
nearby.

Garage Fire - Berry
Street
March
3 - A Friday afternoon garage fire brought Volunteers
from Orange and Gordonsville, as well as County F&EMS personnel
to Berry St. in the Town. First arriving EMS600 found a
detached garage well involved. W23's crew put a knock on
the fire and next arriving personnel worked together to finish
extinguishment and overhaul.

Monrovia Road MVC
February 23 -
Orange
Volunteers responded to the 22000 block of Monrovia Rd. for
a single vehicle collision with injury. County EMS arrived to
find significant damage to the sedan, which was off the roadway
and into a tree. EMS transported the lone patient to the
hospital and firefighters cleared up shortly thereafter.

Porter Rd. Car-B-Q
February 12
- Units
responded to Porter Rd. just prior to the Orange County
Sheriff’s Office late Sunday night for a reported vehicle fire.
Upon arrival, Chief 23 found a single vehicle in the middle of
the roadway with heavy fire in the engine compartment. Tanker
23’s crew knocked the fire down quickly utilizing foam and units
remained in scene a while longer “mopping up”.

Two Life Members
Pass Within Weeks of Each Other
February 8
- It is with deepest regret that the Orange Volunteer Fire
Company announces the passing of life members Robert Manley
Jones on 1/31/2006 and William David Gill on 2/7/2006.
Jones began serving the Company in October 1960, while Gill
began in May 1972. Obituaries for both are below.

Old Gordonsville MVC
January 29
- Orange
Volunteers were requested for a motor vehicle collision
on Old Gordonsville Rd. just south of Mountain Track Rd. First
arriving units discovered a single vehicle on its roof with one
patient out of the vehicle. Orange Firefighters assisted in
care of the patient, who needed to be airlifted to the hospital,
and handled the ensuing landing zone. A portion of the road was
closed for nearly an hour until the hazard was removed.

Zach. Taylor MVC
January 12
- Orange
Firefighters were sent to Zachary Taylor Hwy. just south of
Constitution Hwy. for a two vehicle collision involving a
tractor trailer. First arriving units found a large dump truck
hauling stone overturned in a ditch and another vehicle off the
roadway. Units remained on scene assisting EMS with the two
patients, who were transported with minor injuries, and aiding
with traffic control.
