Apartment Fire
March 11 - At 0305, Units from
Companies 23, 24, and Culpeper 10 as well as OCRS were dispatched
for an apartment fire on Twyman Street in the Town of Orange.
Chief 23 marked responding shortly after the initial tone and was
advised by OC ECC of a working fire at 135 Twyman Street. As
Engine 23 pulled the hill on Caroline, Chief 23 went on the scene
with a 2 story multi-family dwelling with smoke showing from the
second floor. FF/Driver J. Fitch on Engine 23 laid out LDH
from the hydrant at Main and Twyman to the front of the building.
The 5 man crew exited the pumper and stretched a 200' mattydale to
the second floor and found heavy fire conditions in the kitchen of
the unit. The crew made an aggressive attack on the fire and
had it "knocked" quickly. Crews from Truck 23 split and
laddered the roof to ventilate as well as entered the fire apartment
to assist with salvage and overhaul. The Tanker crew entered
the units adjacent to and below the fire apartment to check for
extension. Wagon 24's crew assisted with utilities and
overhaul while the crew from Wagon 25 stood by outside. Units
cleared at 0455.
