Laundry is something that is likely a part of your everyday routine, but do you perform the necessary maintenance on your dryer to keep your home safe? This month we will be sharing a few dryer safety tips with our readers. You should always clean your lint filter before and after each load of laundry and never use a dryer without a lint filter. Checking that your outdoor vent flap is not obstructed, especially by snow in the winter is vital. Once a year you should clean lint out of the vent pipe or have a dryer lint removal service do it for you. Never leave your dryer running when you leave your home or go to bed. Lastly, ensure your dryer has been installed and serviced properly, keep the area around your dryer free of items that may burn (boxes, cleaning supplies, and clothing), and the right plug and outlet have been used. The leading cause of home dryer fires is failure to clean them properly!
