Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Lieutenant Jason Morris
November 11, 2018

The citizens that have attended the fire academy over the last few weeks have been busy.

Night 5- Citizens took part and learned about the different fire hoses that are used in the fire service. They learned specific techniques and strategies to be able to operate a fire hose.

Day 6- The citizens took a Saturday morning and participated in a vehicle extrication, car fire, and a live structural burn. While performing an extrication on a vehicle, scene safety is critical. The citizens were shown how to properly stabilize a vehicle before performing extrication. They also used the various tools that can be used for extrication. The citizens also took part in a car fire scenario to learn the hazards of a car fire and different techniques to extinguish the fire. Finally, the citizens were able to take part in a live structural burn. They were able to enter a controlled burn environment to see the behavior of fire and also signs to be aware of to remain safe.

Night 7- The focus for the last night of instruction was ladders. They were shown the different types of ladders in the fire service and how to properly use the ladders. The citizens were given the opportunity to climb the aerial ladder on Truck 23 and learn about the ladder pipe and how to use it effectively.

Night 8- The citizens fire academy closed with a graduation and presentation of certificates.

We would like to thank each and every one that attended and completed the Citizens Fire Academy. This was a great year with a great group that worked very hard and was very enthusiastic. We look forward to another great year next year. Be sure to check out all the pictures from the last few weeks of the academy.
