On Thursday October 4th, the citizens of the academy got an understanding of fire behavior, the proper use of a fire extinguisher, and fire safety training. They were taught how to approach a small fire and how to utilize the appropriate extinguisher to extinguish the fire. Having a basic understanding of fire behavior and basic knowledge of how to approach a small fire, can potentially save your life and prevent significant damage to property.
This past Thursday October 11th, the citizens learned about the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that a firefighter utilizes. They were able to don full turnout gear and how to utilize a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). After learning about the turnout gear and SCBA, we put their skills through the 2 minute drill so they could get a feel for a real life scenario.
